Monday 26 January 2015 hosts the highly anticipated tie between the Surrey Smashers and Team Derby. Currently Surrey Smashers sit atop of the National Badminton League with Team Derby in third place.
This tie proves to be a highly exhilarating one with some of the finest players in the NBL taking to the court. Namely, Rajiv Ouseph and Chris Langridge who are both named as captain for their teams, not to mention the Superstar and World Number 6 that is Gabby Adcock. A personal favourite of mine is Dutch international Soraya de Visch Eljbergen, who showed amazing determination and resilience in the last tie against Loughborough Sport and saved 5 match points to then emerge as the eventual winner.
All roads lead to Guildford, Surrey Sports Park where the sold out arena will be buzzing in anticipation for the tantalising head to head. The action will be streamed live via YouTube at 7.30pm.
The NBL match format is the best of five sets to 9 points (no setting). In the fifth set it is the first to five points, however there can be no more than a 3 point deficit, if this occurs then the leaders win the match.
All the other participating teams are playing on Monday; University of Nottingham will take on Loughborough Sport, which will be broadcasted on Sky Sports 2 from 7.30pm-10pm. Also competing on the night will be MK Badminton against Birmingham Lions. All matches are sure to be compelling viewing so tune in, stream or come along and be a part of the revolutionary spectacle that is the National Badminton League.
Who will you be supporting??? There is only one team to support and that is SURREY SMASHERS!!!
