August 3rd 2014 hosted ‘The Joel Gayle & Carl Baxter Masterclass Experience’. 16 participants took to the court in a bespoke training programme delivered by Joel Gayle & Carl Baxter; aimed at eliminating common habits and adding variety and flair to their game.
The Masterclass started at 10am and finished at 2pm with an intense match play session following until 4pm. I couldn’t allow the players to play on an empty stomach so a not so light lunch was provided - Jamaican fried chicken, sandwich platter, salad (Greek & green leaf), pitta bread, Jamaican bread, dips, finger foods, drinks and a homemade carrot cake baked by none other than yours truly.
A few aspects covered throughout the Masterclass included:
- Attacking play and varied attack
- Defence and turning defence into attack
- Being aggressive and active at the net
- Kills
- Transition from the rear to midcourt and midcourt to forecourt
- Conditioned games
Carl and I would like to congratulate and thank all who took part in the first Masterclass presented by The Joel Gayle School of Badminton. Watch this space for the next Masterclass soon to come!!!! To ensure you are contacted directly when the next Masterclass is announced, please send me an email or become a member.
